Position Summary
The Lab Supervisor works in a food laboratory environment and manages the lab team and day-to-day processes, contributing to full execution and compliance of the facility to Quality Management Systems and Food Safety Programs based on 21 CFR, FDA, and customer requirements, providing quality assurance support for the Production team and performing product sampling and testing as required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages the QA team, including lab technicians and understands and monitors productivity and quality of output for Lab team
  • Develops and communicates the Lab work schedule, ensuring that Lab staffing meets production requirements
  • Trains and mentors Lab Technicians, ensuring they develop proficiency in testing and sampling procedures
  • Works with Production team in identifying and troubleshooting potential quality issues and incidents
  • Performs sampling and product testing activities as required
  • Ensures proper testing and sampling protocols are followed at all times by lab personnel
  • Ensures proper Good Manufacturing Practices are in place and executed
  • Ensures safety practices are performed at all times
  • Ensures compliance with Quality Management Systems, Food Safety Programs and Company Quality Assurance protocol
  • Performs release and disposition of ingredients and finished product
  • Communicates with customers, both internal and external, to ensure requirements are met
  • Assists with internal and external audits as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical or scientific field
  • Two or more years of demonstrated work experience preferred in quality assurance in a food manufacturing or food processing environment, preferably dairy
  • One or more years of supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of a 21 CFR environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, food security, HACCP and laboratory methods
  • Excellent communication skills, including teaching and coaching
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to positively contribute in a team environment
